Fraport Traffic Figures - December and Full Yea...

FRANKFURT, Germany, January 14 /PRNewswire/ -- - Fraport Group Serves More Than 75 Million Passengers - December Continues FRA's Pattern of Record Traffic Figures Last year, Frankfurt Airport exceeded the record mark of 54 million passengers for the first time. Annual airfreight throughput at the Frankfurt international air transportation hub also reached a new peak figure of 2.1 million metric tons. Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed a total of 54,167,817 passengers, 2.5 percent more than in 2006. Airfreight throughput at FRA advanced by 1.9 percent to 2,095,293 metric tons. Fraport's executive board chairman Dr. Wilhelm Bender said these extremely positive traffic results exceeded the company's expectations: "At the beginning of 2007, we anticipated noticeably slower passenger growth at our FRA home base due to capacity constraints. But better aircraft utilization and the structural improvement in flight offers at FRA have provided fresh impetus to traffic development." Bender explained that the absence of extremely adverse weather conditions also had a positive effect. Airmail was the only traffic segment to decline at FRA over the past twelve months, slipping by 1.8 percent to 95,168 metric tons. The number of aircraft movements rose by 0.6 percent to 492,569 takeoffs and landings. Maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) climbed by one percent to 28,240,441 metric tons. FRA 's traffic figures were also positive for the last month of the year: 3,966,325 passengers (up 3.4 percent), 181,959 metric tons of airfreight (up 2.2 percent), 38,234 takeoffs and landings (up 0.4 percent), as well as accumulated MTOWs of 2,251,307 metric tons (up 1.6 percent) all represented new historic December records for Germany's largest airport. Rising by 4.6 percent, European traffic generated the most dynamic growth. In contrast, intercontinental traffic increased by 3.5 percent, slightly slower than in the previous months. Total passenger volume for the Fraport Group reached 75,614,414 in 2007 - an increase of 5.5 percent. Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN), the Group's second airport in Germany, recorded 4,104,246 passengers and growth of 8.4 percent. At Peru's Lima Airport (LIM), traffic surged by 24.3 percent to 7,507,811 passengers. Fraport's terminals at the Antalya (AYT) vacation airport in Turkey welcomed 6,488,036 passengers, resulting in growth of 12.7 percent. Fraport's Burgas Airport (BOJ) investment in Bulgaria developed positively, too: 1,949,198 passengers represented growth of 7.3 percent. In contrast, Varna (VAR) - Fraport's second airport on Bulgarian Black Sea coast - saw traffic dip slightly by 2.6 percent to 1,493,267 passengers. The Fraport Group's total cargo (airfreight + airmail) volume increased by 2.9 percent in 2007 to 2,508,136 metric tons. The number of aircraft movements at Fraport's majority-owned airports rose by 3.7 percent to 698,402 takeoffs and landings. In December 2007, the Group's six airports served a total of 5,207,128 passengers (up 3.9 percent). Cargo tonnage jumped by 4.6 percent to 227,283 metric tons, while aircraft movements climbed by 3.7 percent to 53,079 takeoffs and landings.
