Transaction in Own Shares

The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc announces that on 16 May 2008 the Company
repurchased 310,000 of its own shares for cancellation at a price of 440.6594
pence per share. The total number of ordinary 25p shares now in issue is
196,940,748.
