Transaction in Own Shares

The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc announces that on 01 August 2008 the Company
repurchased 250,000 of its own shares for cancellation at a price of 366.85
pence per share. The total number of ordinary 25p shares now in issue is
195,116,734.
