The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc

Voting Rights and Capital as at 31 January 2008

This announcement is made in accordance with DTR5.6.

During the month of January 2008 The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc repurchased
295,000 of its own shares, the transactions being duly notified in accordance
with the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

As at 31 January 2008 The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc's issued share capital
consists of 198,935,748 ordinary shares with voting rights. The Edinburgh
Investment Trust plc holds no shares in Treasury.

Therefore, the total number of voting rights in The Edinburgh Investment Trust
plc is 198,935,748.

The above figure (198,935,748) may be used by shareholders as the denominator
for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to
notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, The Edinburgh
Investment Trust plc under the FSA's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
