                               BOARD APPOINTMENT                               

Chemring Group PLC is delighted to announce the appointment of the Rt Hon Lord
Freeman as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 26 May 2006.

Roger Freeman, aged 63, has extensive knowledge and understanding of both
business and Government affairs. He is currently a Consultant (formerly
Partner) to PricewaterhouseCoopers and Chairman of their Corporate Finance
Advisory Board, and Chairman of Thales UK plc. He is also on the main Board of
Thales S.A., France. He is Chairman of Cambridge University Board for their
Technology Transfer Office. He was a Partner with Lehman Brothers Investment
Bankers between 1969 and 1985.

Appointed to the House of Lords in 1997, he was a Member of Parliament from
1983 to 1997. During this time he was a Minister from 1986 in the Ministry of
Defence, Department of Health, Ministry of Transport and Chancellor of the
Duchy of Lancaster in the Cabinet. He was made a Privy Counsellor in 1993.

Ken Scobie, Chairman of Chemring, made the following statement: "We are
delighted that Chemring has been able to attract someone of Roger's calibre and
reputation. His substantial experience within business, Government and the
defence industry will be an invaluable asset to the Board in the delivery of
its future strategy for the Group. I very much look forward to working with
him."

There are no further details in relation to the Rt Hon Lord Freeman which
require disclosure pursuant to paragraph 6.F.2 (b) to (g) of the Listing Rules
of the Financial Services Authority.
