Capita selected by NHS England to become sole provider for primary care support services framework

Capita plc (‘Capita’) announces today that it has been selected by NHS England as preferred bidder to establish a single provider framework for administrative support functions for primary care across the UK, including an initial contract to manage and deliver services in England. The four year sole provider framework has a maximum total value of £1bn. Under the framework, the initial 7 to 10 year contract for Capita to deliver administrative support services for primary care in England is anticipated to be valued at up to circa £400m, whilst achieving significant savings for NHS England.

Capita will introduce a common set of services, processes and standards to improve the quality, reliability and sustainability of administration support services. Accessible services and better ways of working will contribute significant savings in keeping with NHS England’s commitment to reduce administration costs and protect investment in frontline care.

Notes
The framework: The services that can be procured through the framework, and which Capita will deliver in England, encompass a range of core administrative functions for GPs, opticians, pharmacists and dentists. They include services such as payments administration, management of movement of medical records and eligibility lists for practitioners. There is also scope under the framework to develop and deliver other support service activities that will add value to primary care professionals. Primary care contractors and healthcare commissioners across the UK (England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey) can take advantage of the new framework. In England the management of primary care support services transferred to NHS England in 2013 and are currently delivered by a mixture of public and private sector employees

Capita in health: Capita has more than 25 years’ experience of working with the NHS and healthcare organisations, including 95% of NHS trusts. Some 3,000 employees currently support our significant activities across the healthcare sector, providing a range of professional support services to help NHS and healthcare organisations deliver safe and effective healthcare for the public. Most recently, Capita has been approved by NHS England to join the Lead Provider Framework for Commissioning Support Services and has also been selected as preferred bidder to form a strategic partnership to deliver corporate services for Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust (CLCH).
