LSC appoints Capita for learner support services

19 November 2008 LSC appoints Capita to administer learner support services The Learning and Skills Council ("LSC") has today announced that it has appointed Capita to administer the full range of learner support services, including Education Maintenance Allowances (EMA) and the Adult Learning Grant (ALG), following the severance of the LSC's contract with its previous service provider. The Learner and Learning provider helplines, processing and payments service will transfer to Capita on 28 November 2008. With effect from that date, Capita will bring in a new senior management team to oversee the staff and operations in the Coventry, Manchester and Darlington processing centres. Paul Pindar, Chief Executive of The Capita Group Plc, commented: "Capita will now focus on achieving a smooth transfer of the services. We will work closely with the LSC to review existing processes and determine an appropriate course of action in order to move towards an efficient and timely service, but this will take time due to the current backlog. Together, we will do all we can to improve the future service for young people, colleges and learning providers." Details of the contract will be announced once all arrangements have been finalised. -ends- Notes to editors: Capita was responsible for setting up and successfully running the Education Maintenance Allowance scheme, on behalf of the Government, from September 2003 and for the duration of the contract until July 2007.
