TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

BlackRock Greater Europe Investment Trust plc

The Company announces that 100,000 Ordinary shares of 0.1p each were today sold
by the Company from the shares held in Treasury at a price of 184.75p per share
which represented a premium to net asset value.

As a result there remains 2,129,788 Ordinary shares held in Treasury by the
Company. The number of Ordinary shares that the Company has in issue following
this sale, is 95,469,314 excluding Ordinary shares held in Treasury.
