The Company was today informed that, under the terms of the Bellway p.l.c.
(2005) Employee Share Option Scheme, Mr E F Ayres exercised an option to
purchase 3,500 12.5p ordinary shares in the Company at £8.44 per share.

On the same day Mr Ayres transferred 1,750 of these shares to his wife, Jane
Ayres, for nil consideration. Mr and Mrs Ayres each then sold 792 shares at £
22.47 per share.

Following these transactions Mr Ayres' beneficial interest in ordinary 12.5p
shares in the Company has increased to 41,920 (0.034%) from 40,004 (0.032%).
