Ashtead Group plc announces that it has today been advised that as at 9th
October 2007 Aviva plc and its subsidiaries were directly interested in a total
of 20,617,886 shares (or 3.68% of its share capital), and indirectly interested
in 7,133,142 shares (or 1.28% of its share capital).
