The Board of Directors of Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) announced
today that Chairman, President and CEO Lawrence A. Weinbach, 64, will
continue as chairman through January 2006. He plans to step down as
CEO in January 2005, but remain as full-time chairman responsible for
among other things, creating and implementing the company's long-term
strategic direction.
As part of this succession planning action, the Board elected Joseph
W. McGrath, 51, president and chief operating officer and George R.
Gazerwitz, 64, vice chairman, effective immediately.
McGrath had been corporate executive vice president and president,
Enterprise Transformation Services (ETS) at Unisys. In this new role,
he will lead the company's day-to-day operations.
'Joe and I have worked closely together for more than five years, and
he is very familiar with all aspects of our global business,' Weinbach
said. 'The contributions he has made to Unisys successful
transformation into a services-led, technology-enabled organization,
and the vision we share for how to grow the company, make him the
right person for this key position.'
McGrath joined Unisys in January 1999 as senior vice president of
major accounts sales and chief marketing officer, and since that time
has held a number of key positions, most recently as president of ETS.
Previously, he was vice president and general manager of Xerox
Production Color Systems, and held a number of other sales, marketing
and management roles there from 1989 to 1998. He joined Xerox from the
Gartner Group, a worldwide information technology consulting firm,
where he was vice president and service director. McGrath has a
bachelor's degree from Rutgers University.
Gazerwitz, in addition to his current duties leading the company's
Systems and Technology practice, will also take on responsibility for
a number of special projects in his new capacity as vice chairman. He
had been corporate executive vice president and president, Systems and
Technology.
'George has been a strong leader of our Unisys technology business,
which continues to play an important role in the company's success.
The breadth and depth of his knowledge and experience reaches across
our entire organization. In his new role as vice chairman, we'll look
to harness these strengths where we have critical strategic
opportunities,' Weinbach said.
