Tate & Lyle PLC ('the Company') announces that, on Friday 1 August
2003, Mr Stuart Strathdee, an executive director of the Company, was
allotted 3,522 ordinary shares in the Company on the exercise of a
Sharesave option. The option price was 220p.

Mr Strathdee now has an interest in 34,920 ordinary shares and holds
options over 527,143 ordinary shares in Tate & Lyle PLC.
