Tate & Lyle PLC (the 'Company') was informed on 4 August 2005 that on 4 August
2005 Sir David Lees, Chairman of the Company, had purchased 5,000 ordinary
shares of 25 pence each in the capital of the Company at 455.65p per share. Sir
David Lees now has an interest in 40,000 shares of the Company.
