Tate & Lyle PLC (the 'Company') was informed on 3 August 2005 that on 3 August
2005 Mr Kai Nargolwala, a Non-Executive Director of the Company, had purchased
5,000 ordinary shares of 25 pence each in the capital of the Company at 458.75p
pence per share. Mr Nargolwala had not previously reported holding an interest
in the shares of the Company.
