                     STATEMENT RE: ONGOING ISSUE OF SHARES

Further to the announcement on 26 April 2006 by JPMorgan Chinese Investment
Trust plc (the 'Company') regarding the restriction placed by the Prospectus
Rules of the United Kingdom Listing Authority ('UKLA') on its further issue of
new shares, the Board announces that the Company has today:

•   Published a prospectus (the 'Prospectus') approved by the UKLA. Publication 
    of the Prospectus enables the Company to seek admission to the Official List
    and to trading on the London Stock Exchange of further new shares, while 
    remaining compliant with the UKLA's Prospectus Rules.  The Prospectus is
    expected to remain valid for twelve months, subject to the requirement for 
    the publication of supplementary prospectuses to disclose any significant 
    changes in the financial or trading position of the Company;

•   Published a circular (the 'Circular') seeking the necessary shareholder 
    authorities to enable the Board to issue up to approximately 22 million 
    new shares in the Company, representing approximately 30% of the Company's 
    total ordinary share capital in issue as at 6 July 2006.  In this regard 
    the Company has convened an extraordinary general meeting to be held on 
    1 August 2006.

The Board further announces that it has appointed Winterflood Investment Trusts
as corporate stockbroker and financial adviser to the Company with immediate
effect.
