Bank of Ireland announces that Ms Fiona Muldoon will retire as an Independent Non-Executive Director on 30 September 2023, having served on the Board since June 2015.

 

During her tenure on the Board, Ms Muldoon has served as a member of the key board committees of Audit, Risk, Remuneration and Nomination & Governance, and has chaired the Group's Sustainability Committee since its establishment in December 2021. Ms Muldoon was also recommended by Bank of Ireland for appointment as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee of New Ireland Assurance Company, positions she has held since April 2021 and from which she is now retiring.

 

Ms Eileen Fitzpatrick will succeed Ms Muldoon as Chair of the Group Sustainability Committee, with immediate effect. Ms Fitzpatrick has served as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of Bank of Ireland since 2019 and is a current member of the Group Sustainability Committee.

 

Bank of Ireland Chairman, Mr. Patrick Kennedy, acknowledged Ms Muldoon's contribution to the Board since her appointment in 2015, saying that  "Bank of Ireland has benefited greatly from Fiona's experience, diligence and exceptional commitment over the past 8 years. She has made a very meaningful contribution to the Group across a wide range of roles held during her tenure".

 

Bank of Ireland also announces the appointment of Ms Margaret Sweeney as an Independent Non-Executive Director to the Board of Bank of Ireland Group PLC and the Court of Directors of The Governor and Company of the Bank of Ireland with effect from 1 October 2023.

 

Ms Sweeney also joins the Audit and Remuneration Committees.

 

Ms Sweeney has extensive board and executive experience across a number of sectors including financial services, with a clear focus on strategy and corporate development, delivering transformational change, audit and accounting.

 

Ms Sweeney is CEO and an Executive Director of Irish Residential Properties REIT Plc. She is the Chair of the Advisory Board and Adjunct Professor at DCU Business School.

 

She was a Board Director of Dalata Hotel Group plc for nine years until April 2023 and is former Chair of Irish Institutional Property. Ms Sweeney served as the CEO of Postbank Ireland Limited during 2006 to 2010, and prior to this was CEO and held Senior Executive roles in DAA plc during an 8-year period from 1996 to 2004.  Prior to joining DAA plc, she served as a Director with KPMG (Dublin) in Audit and Advisory Services, including corporate transactions.

 

She previously held roles as a Non-Executive Director of HSBC Institutional Trust Services (Ireland) DAC and Fire Financial Services, as a Member of the Governing Authority of Dublin City University (DCU) and Governing Authority of Teagasc, President of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and as a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

 

Ms Sweeney is a Chartered Director and a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and received a Batchelor of Commerce Degree from University of Galway.
