The Board of Fidelity Japanese Values PLC is pleased to announce that Mr
Nicholas Barber has been appointed as a non-executive director of the Company
with effect from 4 December 2000. 

Mr Barber's directorships are set out below:-

Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group plc (1996 to date)

Bristol & West plc (1994 - to date)

Royal Insurance Holdings plc (1991 - 1996)

Other than as disclosed below*, there is no information to be disclosed under
paragraph 6.F.2 (b) to (g).
*In respect of 6.F.2.(d) Mr Barber was a director of Baring plc between 1994
and 1995 when the company was put into administration.

Mr Barber holds 10,000 Ordinary Shares in Fidelity Japanese Values PLC
