   NOTIFICATION OF INTEREST: COMPANIES ACT 1985 s.329
                            
The independent trustee of the Barclays Group (PSP and
ESOS) Employees' Benefit Trust notified the Company on 8
October that it granted an option to Mr D P Allvey on 6
September 1999 under the Barclays PLC 1986 Renewed
Executive Share Option Scheme over 13,328 Barclays PLC
ordinary shares at an exercise price of £17.82 per share.
No consideration was paid on the grant of the option.

The above trust is a discretionary trust for the benefit
of employees and former employees (and, in each case,
their families) of Barclays Bank PLC and its
subsidiaries.
