                       IAN A MARTIN APPOINTED CHAIRMAN

SSL International PLC ('SSL'), the global manufacturer and distributor of
healthcare products, announces the appointment of Ian A Martin as
non-executive Chairman with effect from 1 September 2001. He replaces Stuart
Wallis who, as announced, is stepping down following the conclusion of his
agreed term.

Ian Martin is currently Chairman of Uniq (formerly Unigate) a position he has
held since 1995. He is stepping down from this post at the end of July. He is
also non-Executive Chairman of 365 Corporation plc, a quoted
telecommunications business; HLF Holdings Ltd, a major international insurance
broker; and of Baxi Group Ltd, a supplier of heating, hot water and air
quality products.

His career has included 14 years at Grand Metropolitan plc, latterly as Chief
Operating Officer, Group Managing Director and Deputy Chairman. He was also
Chairman of Inter-Continental Hotels Corporation prior to its sale to Seibu
Saison for £1.2bn in 1988.

Commenting on the appointment, Stuart Wallis said:

'Ian has extensive experience working with high profile brands in a marketing
environment and will be a welcome addition to the Board. It has been a
difficult period for SSL but the necessary actions have been taken to put the
company on a strong footing to benefit from its leading market positions and
strong brands. Ian will be leading a focused management team which I am
confident will develop the full value of these assets.'

Ian Martin added:

'There is now an excellent team at SSL, which I am glad to be joining.
Together they have established a good platform from which to drive the
business forward. I believe my experience complements the skills of the team.'

At the Board's request, Stuart Wallis has agreed to continue as Chairman
beyond his contract date of July, until Ian joins in September. Stuart became
chairman of SSL in June 1998, following the merger of London International
Group plc and Seton Scholl Healthcare plc.

Chief Executive Brian Buchan commented:

'The Board would like to thank Stuart for the significant contribution he has
made to creating a strong player in the global healthcare market. SSL has
benefited from his leadership and we all wish him well.'
