Revised fees for mobile operators to use 900 and 1800 MHz spectrum
Ofcom has today published a consultation to revise the annual licence fees which mobile operators have to pay for use of the 900 and 1800 MHz mobile spectrum.
The operators use these spectrum bands to provide voice and data services using a mix of 2G, 3G and 4G technologies.
Ofcom has provisionally concluded that mobile operators should pay (per year, in April 2018 prices):
· £1.15m per MHz of 900 MHz spectrum they hold; and
· £0.908m per MHz of 1800 MHz spectrum
Today's consultation includes draft regulations that would implement the proposed fees. The closing date for responses is 3 August 2018.
