Worldlink Commences Actions to Protect its Intellectual Property
Worldlink is issuing its first Letter Before Action in connection with a UK Company which is infringing its UK patent GB 235768B. This formal commencement of proceedings comes after communication with the infringing company over the past year and the offer of a patent license. Worldlink estimates the total value of royalties due from this company for the life of the patent to be £8m.
Worldlink has approached more than 30 companies in relation to infringement of its patents which cover the provision of real-time data to all mobile devices. In a second phase of protecting its patent rights, Worldlink have identified a further 20 companies to whom they will offer licences for access to its UK patent over the coming weeks.
In order to pursue these actions, Worldlink has entered into conditional fee arrangements with leading Counsel and lawyers. The Company is also considering an application for after the event insurance.
Neil Riches, Managing Director at Worldlink commented: 'This formal action follows extensive research into the robustness of the Worldlink UK patent, which has resulted in a positive Opinion from one of the UK's leading QC's. The Opinion also formed part the Prospectus produced as part of the listing application process to the Standard Segment of the London Stock Exchange. In addition, expert witness reports have been compiled to support the technological and historical background to the patent and its validity.'
Worldlink intends to increase its licensing activities to protect the commercial position it has been working towards in the financial, and most recently, sports betting markets.
