  UPDATE ON PROPOSED ACQUISITION OF CERTAIN ASSETS OF UNIVERSAL ACCESS GLOBAL
           HOLDINGS INC. ('UNIVERSAL') UNDER THE US BANKRUPTCY CODE

Following the approval on Friday 15th April by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in
Chicago of the terms of the Bidding Procedures Motion, the date for the Auction
of the Assets of Universal and its subsidiaries will take place on 13th May. The
Sale Approval hearing, at which the result of the auction is approved by the
Bankruptcy Court, will take place on 17th May.

A further announcement will be made when the result of the auction is known.
