TNS extends global network into Brazil
Taylor Nelson Sofres plc (TNS), a world leader in market information, reinforces
its presence in Latin America through the acquisition of a majority holding in
Interscience Informacao e Tecnologia Aplicada Ltda (Interscience), a
well-established Brazilian custom research business.
Interscience operates mainly in the consumer, financial and retail sectors. Its
solutions-based approach to clients is closely aligned to that of TNS and
Interscience has already worked with TNS on multi-national studies.
Founded in 1981, Interscience is headquartered in Sao Paulo and employs 55
people. Its turnover for the year ended 31 December 2003 was R$11.3m (£2.3m)
and net assets at that date were R$1.6m (£0.3m). The current Managing Director
Paulo Secches, who will retain a holding in the business for the next four
years, will remain with the company, together with the management team.
Commenting on the acquisition, Pedro Ros, TNS Director Southern Europe and Latin
America, said, "Brazil is one of the world's major markets for market
information and this acquisition, which fills the last significant gap in our
worldwide network, builds on the group's presence in the increasingly important
Latin American region. With businesses in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Central
America, we are now well positioned to meet clients' demands for multi-country
research across the region.
"This strengthening of our custom business complements our consumer panel joint
venture, Latinpanel, which now spans 14 countries and delivers regional as well
as country information on consumer behaviour to multi-national and local clients
