European Union to Fund Bauxsol(R) Technology for the Remediation of a
Contaminated Site in Albania
Virotec International Ltd (ASX/AIM: VTI) is pleased to announce that its
Bauxsol (R) Technology is part of the successful tender for the remediation of a
hazardous arsenic contaminated site located in the Nitrate Fertilizer Plant of
Fier, Albania. The tender is an initiative of the Commission of the European
Union under its Phare Programme.
The awarding of the contract is the culmination of a significant amount of work
by Virotec and Selca S.p.A, our regional strategic partner and follows an
extensive review of Bauxsol(R) Technology.
The initial contract sum is €1 Million (approx $AUD1.62 Million) of which
Virotec's share is approxomiately 30%. Virotec will provide its Bauxsol(R)
Technology, products and associated technical support and the balance of the
initial contract will be allocated to site management, engineering works and
overall administration of the project to be arranged and overseen by Selca.
The work consists of the treatment of approximately 1,000 m3 of hazardous
arsenic contaminated solution stored in old tanks and the cleaning of
approximately 3,000 m2 of arsenic contaminated soils to a depth of 15
centimetres, on a site where the arsenic solutions leaked and contaminated the
soil. The works will be conducted in two stages. The first stage involves
detailed analyses of the contaminated liquid and the contaminated soils,
including core drilling to depths of up to 3 metres in the defined area to
establish accurately the depth and distribution of arsenic contamination. Should
the level of contamination exceed the levels provided for in the initial
contract, the contract compensation will be increased to cover the costs of the
extra Bauxsol(R) Technology and products that may be required. The second stage
of the contract involves completing the remediation work.
