                              The rebirth of Oxus

Oxus Gold plc (OXS.L) - London: Shareholders of Oxus Mining plc today (29 May
2003) approved a name change for the company to Oxus Gold plc. Company Chief
Executive, Bill Trew, also unveiled the new logo for Oxus Gold.

'This moment in time signifies a rebirth for Oxus,' said Bill Trew. 'Like a
phoenix rising from the ashes, our new griffin lion logo - which is a piece from
the Oxus Treasure* - indicates a new beginning for our company.

'We have made good progress this year with our primary project - Amantaytau
Goldfields, in Uzbekistan, and anticipate that we will be pouring our first gold
in December 2003. Shareholders can at last look forward to receiving some
returns for their investment in the years ahead.'

*Believed to have been found on the banks of the Oxus River in what is today
Uzbekistan in 1877, the Oxus Treasure, representing the Achaemenid period, is
one of the most important archaeological finds from the region. The Treasure
comprises some 170 pieces, many of which are housed in the British Museum. The
new Oxus Gold logo is based on one of these pieces.
