W&DB has learnt that detailed confidential information relating to its Brands
Division was disclosed by the Pubmaster group ('Pubmaster') to at least two of
W&DB's principal competitors, being Bass Brewers and Carlsberg-Tetley.

This information had been made available to Pubmaster, in confidence, to
assist Pubmaster in undertaking due diligence during the period before 1 June
2001, when it announced its hostile offer.

W&DB considers that these disclosures were in breach of the terms of
confidentiality agreements entered into between Pubmaster and W&DB, and are
potentially damaging to the W&DB Group's competitive trading position.  The
information disclosed included details of product costs and marketing

W&DB has sought to obtain undertakings from Pubmaster that no further
confidential information would be provided to third parties without W&DB's
consent, other than to Pubmaster's bankers and their professional advisers.

Pubmaster have not agreed to provide satisfactory undertakings.  W&DB will
therefore commence court proceedings on Monday, 16 July 2001 to prevent the
dissemination by Pubmaster of further confidential information to W&DB's
competitors or other unauthorised recipients.

David Thompson, Chairman, commented 'The fact that such commercially sensitive
information has been distributed to our largest competitors is of very serious
concern to us.  We have no option but to prevent any further misuse of our
