Whitbread announces changes to Corporate functions to drive efficiencies and
improve operating performance
Over the past year Whitbread has undergone significant structural change with
the acquisition of Premier Lodge and the disposal of Marriott and other smaller
operations. We have brought in new leadership and given new roles to some of our
most experienced operators. Our focus is now on driving stronger operational
performance and synergy from a more streamlined Whitbread.
Part of this process has been a review of our head office senior management. As
a result we will be establishing a series of shared services that will serve all
the brands within the Group. These shared services will cover Human Resources,
Property, Information Systems and Communications. The new structure will bring
improvements in operating effectiveness and deliver cost savings at head office.
We will give a full update at our Interim Results announcement on 25 October
2005.
Alan Parker, Chief Executive, Whitbread PLC said: 'We have substantially
reshaped this company and built a solid platform for growth in our three core
areas of budget hotels, restaurants and leisure clubs. This new structure will
eliminate duplication between the corporate centre and the brands, improve the
speed and efficiency of our operations and reduce costs. It represents an
important initiative in our drive to continually improve our performance.'
