Sponsorship of Ferrari

Vodafone Group PLC 25 May 2001 25 May 2001 VODAFONE TO SPONSOR FERRARI IN 2002 Vodafone Group Plc ('Vodafone') announces that it has entered into a 3 year sponsorship deal with the Ferrari Formula One Team. The agreement, which involves extensive branding for Vodafone on both the car and the drivers, was revealed today in Monaco, where the most prestigious of Grand Prix will be held this weekend. Over the last two years, Vodafone has expanded rapidly, increasing its geographic presence to 29 countries, spanning 5 continents. Vodafone has stated that part of its future growth strategy is to capitalise on this global footprint, driving synergies and benefits for the Group as a whole. A key component of this is to offer global products and services so that customers can appreciate the benefits and gain from being part of the Vodafone Group of companies. Part of this strategy is to establish Vodafone as one of the world's leading brands, so that customers can recognise the Vodafone network wherever they are. This process started late last year with the re-branding of Vodafone's controlled mobile networks worldwide (e.g. D2 Vodafone in Germany, Omnitel Vodafone in Italy, Libertel Vodafone in the Netherlands). Formula One offers high profile exposure in a sport that commands a worldwide television audience of 360 million people for each race. The sponsorship deal with Ferrari will involve significant branding on the sidepod, nose and front wing of the cars from the start of the 2002 Formula One world title. The Vodafone brand will also appear on the drivers' overalls and helmets. A further agreement with Ferrari Net provides Vodafone with exclusive access to the Ferrari content for delivery of products and services bearing the Ferrari brand across the mobile network. In addition, Vodafone will be creating a central service centre to develop proprietary and customised services and products with the Ferrari brand for access to Ferrari fans across the world. Chris Gent, Chief Executive of Vodafone commented: 'This is an extremely important deal for us and will give us greatly enhanced brand exposure throughout the world. 'We are the world's leading mobile telecoms company and it is our objective for Vodafone to be recognised as one of the leading global brands. I am confident that the sponsorship of Ferrari, with the immensely valuable media coverage that Formula One attracts, will help us towards achieving this ambition.'
