Regulatory Approval

Telecom Plus PLC 6 September 2001 TELECOM plus PLC 6th September 2001 Telecom plus awarded full UK gas supplier licence Telecom plus plc, the UK's best value multi-utility (gas, electricity, telephony, internet), has been awarded a licence to supply gas to all UK domestic households with immediate effect. Until today, Telecom plus has only been able to offer gas to a limited number of households under a restricted licence while Ofgem, the power industry regulator, assessed its application for a full National Gas Supplier licence. These customers have been benefiting from the UK's lowest domestic gas prices. Telecom plus now provides a complete range of utility services including fixed and mobile telephony, gas, electricity and internet access. More than 85,000 households throughout the UK already benefit from substantial savings, receiving a single bill covering all the different services supplied to them. Because Telecom plus is able to spread a single set of overheads across all the different services it offers, customers benefit from progressively greater savings the more services they take. Today's award of a full gas licence means that every household in the UK will be able to benefit from the UK's cheapest gas prices, provided they also choose to save money on their fixed or mobile telephony with Telecom plus. Charles Wigoder, Chief Executive, commented: 'This is a significant milestone in the development of Telecom plus into a full multi-service utility. We can now supply our customers with all their energy and telephony needs, at significant savings to the prices charged by former monopoly suppliers like Centrica or BT. With our new full gas licence we are now providing a complete one-stop-shop for our customers, with the added benefit of just a single bill and one customer service number. We are committed to sharing with our customers the economies of scale made possible by our integrated billing and customer service platform, as demonstrated by our offering the UK's lowest prices for both domestic gas and electricity.'
