America Movil's Porta Ecuador Goes Live with Synchronica Mobile IM Service

Highlights:

·     Porta Ecuador offers Synchronica-based Mobile IM service to all 10.3 million subscribers

·     Porta's carrier-branded Mobile IM service will create customer stickiness and reduce churn

·     Synchronica's industry-standard IMPS technology provides Porta with the opportunity to gain a high customer adoption rate

·     Synchronica has a group-wide framework agreement to deploy the service across all 17 América Móvil subsidiaries

Porta Ecuador has launched Messenger Porta, a mobile Instant Messaging service based on, and powered by, Synchronica's hosted Instant Messaging and Presence Service (IMPS) platform.

Synchronica's technology is based on the IMPS industry standard, removing the barrier to entry for Porta's subscribers, and making high adoption rates more likely. The solution has already generated significant customer traction among other carriers in the América Móvil group.

The highly appealing, carrier-branded service offers all 10.3 million subscribers a Porta-branded mobile IM identity, giving Porta the opportunity to establish a thriving operator-owned/operator-branded IM community. The service also acts as a churn inhibitor, because defecting to a rival carrier would mean the loss of IM identity.

Porta launched Messenger Porta towards the end of 2010, and is now the seventh América Móvil property to consent to a Synchronica launch announcement. With a dedicated delivery team which works closely with América Móvil, Synchronica has been focused on ensuring that the remaining subsidiaries launch their service by 31 March 2011.

Synchronica's IMPS solution provides a complete, scalable and OMA standards-compliant mobile operator messaging service. As well as providing the technology, Synchronica offers a range of pre- and post-launch services that draw on the company's experience in successful IM deployments around the globe. These services include working closely with carriers on pricing, advertising campaigns and other areas of marketing aimed at optimising adoption rates.

Porta customers can register for the Messenger Porta service by visiting the dedicated portal, or by their phone's WAP menu.

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, added: "Our dedicated launch team works closely with all our customers to ensure a smooth and successful service launch, drawing on our experience during past deployments. Our solution is already generating good customer traction for other subsidiaries of the América Móvil group and we expect it to do the same for Porta."

According to Informa, IM revenues in the LatAm region will grow significantly over the next five years, from around US$1.3billion at the end of 2010 to US$3.3billion by the end of 2015.

Latin America is well ahead of the world average in mobile phone penetration, having reached an average of 93% penetration in mid-2010 against a global rate of around 73%. Over 80% of the region's mobile subscribers are on prepaid plans (Source: BuddeComm).
