Reed International PLC Elsevier NV 14 June 2000 Issued on behalf of Reed International P.L.C. and Elsevier NV Reed Elsevier Presentation to Institutional Investors in New York Today Reed Elsevier plc will be meeting a group of institutional investors later this afternoon in New York, as part of a series of presentations by European and US media companies, organised by UBS Warburg. During the meeting the institutions will receive brief presentations from the chief executives of Reed Elsevier's US businesses - LEXIS, NEXIS and Cahners Business Information - and of Elsevier Science, on the strategic priorities set out by Crispin Davis, Reed Elsevier's chief executive officer, in February 2000. They will confirm that the businesses are performing in line with expectations and are on track against the previously stated strategic objectives. Derk Haank, CEO of Elsevier Science, will say that the roll out of the ScienceDirect web based scientific information service is progressing well and now covers over 35% of journal subscriptions. He will also describe the expansion of services to scientific markets beyond traditional publishing including the recent acquisition of Endeavor, a leading provider of library management systems. Lou Andreozzi, CEO of LEXIS, will describe the targeted improvements being made to the content, functionality and ease of use of the legal research products. He will also describe how LEXIS is improving its product and marketing to specific market segments and to law schools. Bill Pardue, CEO of NEXIS, will explain the steps being taken to enhance the online information products and expand services to customers. He will talk about the recent acquisition of RiskWise, the growing provider of fraud prevention and risk management tools for e-commerce. Marc Teren, CEO of Cahners, will say that progress is on track in the development of Cahners' internet portals in its target markets. He will describe the recent acquisition of CMD Group, the information provider for the construction industry, and its implications for Cahners' web strategy in the construction market. He will also describe how the acquisition of eLogic, the web platform and application developer, will support Cahners' internet initiatives. A detailed update on the implementation of group strategy will be included in the Interim Statement for the half year to 30 June 2000, to be published on 9 August 2000.
