Contract Gain

Screen PLC 16 October 2000 SCREEN PLC: CONTRACT GAIN - CCTV SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS FOR LONDON BOROUGH OF BARKING & DAGENHAM Screen plc ('Screen'), the leading provider of advanced security and communication systems, announces that its Petards International subsidiary has won a contract from the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham ('the Borough') to supply 13 wireless based SWIFT Rapid deployment camera products. The contract, for an undisclosed amount, takes orders for this product in 2000 above £500,000. It follows the deployment of four units for the Borough purchased from Petards in December 1998. The SWIFT camera units are being supplied to provide flexible CCTV surveillance across two large housing estates in the Borough and are being introduced as an extension to the Borough's existing CCTV surveillance network. The cameras will be principally located in certain key surveillance areas to a remote receiving point, eliminating the need for hard-wired connections at camera locations. This makes deployment and relocation of the cameras far easier and quicker than conventional CCTV cameras. The SWIFT camera system uses radio transmission technology developed by Petards to send video and control data signals from the camera locations. To facilitate integrating these devices with the Borough's existing CCTV System equipment, Petards has also been contracted to supply its COBYT (Control by Touch) CCTV Management System. Commenting on the new surveillance project for the Borough, Rodger Brett, Borough Communications Officer, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham said: 'Our surveillance requirements, like those of most local authorities are changing rapidly. Our deployment of four Petards units since late 1998 has convinced us that the SWIFT system, with its built-in flexibility, will prove the most advantageous to our Borough in the years ahead. Radio transmission technology has the added benefit of reducing installation costs and the on-going running costs for these additional cameras.' Said Michael Williams, Managing Director of Petards: 'This project illustrates the opportunities for our SWIFT product and underlines how radio transmission has evolved as a highly appropriate avenue for CCTV surveillance. SWIFT has benefits both in the rapid deployment CCTV surveillance marketplace and as an extension to existing CCTV networks. We expect to be implementing further projects of a similar nature in the coming months.'
