ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND APPOINTS NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Royal Bank of Scotland Group today announced the appointment of a new
non-executive director Dr Jim Currie.
Jim Currie is currently Director General at the European Commission with
responsibility for the EU's Environment Policy. Prior to this he was Director
General for Customs and Indirect Taxation and headed the European Commission
team in the US. He began his civil service career in the Scottish Office
working in transport and industrial development.
Sir George Mathewson, Chairman, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, said 'We are
delighted that Jim is to join our Board. His international experience in the
US and in Europe will add to the breadth and depth of the Group's expertise as
we consolidate our existing operations in these areas and expand further.'
The appointment takes effect from 28th November 2001.

Jim Currie was born in Kilmarnock and educated in Scotland, and Spain. He has
an MA (Honours) in Modern Languages from Glasgow University and is married
with a son and a daughter.
