Macfarlane Group PLC announces that it has sold 2,847,000 ordinary shares in
British Polythene Industries plc, 11% of the issued share capital of that
company and accordingly no longer has a notifiable interest in British
Polythene Industries plc.


The disposal was made at a price of £2.30 per share in cash, in excess of the
carrying value of the investment, namely market price, at 30 June 2001. The
resultant gain on disposal of £0.2m will be recorded in the results for the
second half of the year. The net proceeds of £6.5m will be used to reduce
borrowings.
