Intertek acquires Plastics Technologies Laboratories, Inc

Intertek Group plc (Intertek), the leading international provider of quality and
safety services to a wide range of industries, announces the acquisition of
Plastics Technologies Laboratories, Inc. ('PTLI'), a US plastics testing
laboratory.

Intertek purchased PTLI from Jim and Margaret Beauregard for a cash
consideration of USD5.4million (GBP2.6million). PTLI provides product and
quality testing services to the plastics industry including manufacturers of
plastics, polymers and resins, and end products made from plastics. PTLI is
located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA, with around 20 employees. The company
has a strong reputation for testing services that the industries rely on,
including mechanical, thermal, flammability, optical, product stability (ageing
and weathering) and electrical testing.

Demand for testing and analytical support in the global plastics industry is
driven by the increasing development of high performance plastics in many
industries to replace old materials such as glass, metal and wood as well as the
growing demand for plastics in emerging economies.

PTLI complements Intertek's existing laboratories in the UK and the Netherlands
also providing services to the global plastics industry. In the US, PTLI will
support Intertek's international clients, including their US operations, and
customers. PTLI joins the Oil, Chemical & Agri division of Intertek.
