Re Agreement

GB Group PLC 15 October 2002 GB GROUP PLC ('GB') GB ANNOUNCES NEW DATA AGREEMENT FOR PRODUCTS TO DETECT FRAUD AND PREVENT TERRORISM GB Group plc today announces that it has signed an exclusive deal with Gemserv Limited ('Gemserv') to secure the rights to distribute and licence a unique database comprising of approximately 28 million records. The database will be incorporated into authentication products that will be used solely for the purpose of the prevention and detection of fraud, thereby supporting the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Gemserv is a UK company owned by all the major electricity supply and distribution companies in Great Britain. The agreement with Gemserv is for an initial period of five years. Under the agreement, the parties will split the revenues received from third party licencees of the database products. Under existing, new and proposed Know Your Customer (KYC) initiatives banks, building societies and other financial institutions will be required to confirm the identity of individuals as part of a foundation of strong anti-money laundering controls. The database contains reference numbers that can be used to verify addresses. This is because the metering point reference number also appears on an electricity utility bill as an integral part of the Supply Number and is a piece of information usually only accessible by individuals living at that property. It is the equivalent of someone producing a utility bill to prove their identity, but by using the new database, this can be done online or over the telephone. Under the licensing agreement with Gemserv, GB will control and licence access to metering point information to business sectors outside the utility industry who need to authenticate individuals including financial organisations, security industries and Government agencies. Richard Law, Chief Executive of GB said: 'I am delighted with the agreement. This data is extremely valuable both to companies and other organisations needing to confirm the identity of someone for security reasons and to individuals who want to prevent the theft of their identity. The market for authentication and Know Your Customer products is significant, particularly in the current climate of terrorism and associated money laundering issues. This is the first of a number of unique data sources we intend to obtain for use in this way and we are extremely pleased to be able to contribute to the fight against crime and terrorism whilst at the same time securing value for our investors.'
