Mr Michael Ernest Beckett was appointed to the Board of Costain Group PLC as a
non-executive director with effect from Friday 16 February 2001.  Mr Beckett has
served as a non-executive director on the following publicly quoted companies in
the last five years:

Queens Moat Houses plc (still a director);
BPB plc (still a director);
Horace Clarkson plc (still a director);
Foreign & Colonial Income Growth Investment Trust plc (still a director);
