Aviva PLC 11 August 2006 News release 11 August 2006 AVIVA ANNOUNCES CHANGE TO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES Aviva plc ('Aviva'), the savings, investment and insurance group, announces today that, as a result of the proposed acquisition of AmerUs Group Co. in the USA which will increase the size of the group's international operations significantly, Philip Scott, executive director, Aviva International, will, from 1 September 2006, focus on the further development of Aviva's businesses in North America and Asia Pacific. He will also retain responsibility for the world-wide operations of Morley Fund Management. Philip's responsibility for Aviva's continental European operations will be transferred to Tidjane Thiam, currently managing director, Aviva International, who will become chief executive Aviva Europe, and will join Aviva's executive committee. Richard Harvey, group chief executive of Aviva plc, said: 'Philip's new role reflects the group's determination to capitalise on the significant growth opportunity provided by the recently announced AmerUs acquisition and the longer term potential of Asia. Joined Norwich Union in 1973 and held a number of senior positions before joining the board of Norwich Union in 1993. Philip is a former chief executive and executive chairman of Norwich Union Life (Aviva's life assurance and long-term savings business in the UK). Appointed managing director of Aviva International in January 2006. Between 1994 and 1999, Tidjane went back to the Ivory Coast, where he was successively Chief Executive Officer of the National Bureau for Technical Studies and Development, and Minister for Development. He began his career as a consultant with McKinsey & Company in Paris, from 1988 to 1994. In 1999, Tidjane was named with Gordon Brown as a member of the Forum's 'Dream Cabinet' by the World Economic Forum in Davos. Tidjane is a member of the Commission for Africa, established by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
