Statement re A.M. Best rating upgrade

   Lancashire Holdings Limited announces A.M. Best financial strength rating   
                 upgrade to A (Excellent) with stable outlook                  

Lancashire Holdings Limited ("Lancashire Holdings") today announced that the
A.M. Best rating service has upgraded the financial strength rating to A
(Excellent) from A- (Excellent) and issuer credit ratings (ICR) to "a" from
"a-" of the Lancashire group insurance operating subsidiaries Lancashire
Insurance Company Limited (based in Hamilton, Bermuda) and Lancashire Insurance
Company (UK) Limited (based in the United Kingdom).

Additionally, A.M. Best has upgraded the issuer credit rating for Lancashire
Holdings to "bbb" from "bbb-" (Good) and the debt rating on $130.8 million 3.7%
subordinated notes issued by Lancashire Holdings due in 2035 has been upgraded
to "bbb-" from "bb+".

The outlook for all ratings has been revised to stable from positive.
