Go-Ahead Group PLC

Acquisition of Crawley Depot

Go-Ahead Group PLC
2 April 2001

           The Go-Ahead Group PLC ('Go-Ahead')
              Acquisition of Crawley depot

Go-Ahead announces that, on 31 March 2001, it acquired
ARRIVA plc's Crawley depot property for approximately £3
million in cash. Additionally, with effect from 31 March
2001, Go-Ahead's Metrobus subsidiary is operating many of
the local routes formerly operated by ARRIVA plc and
assumed responsibility for the employment of 123 former
ARRIVA plc employees.

As well as serving the new routes and Metrobus' existing
bus routes in Crawley, Gatwick and the surrounding
district, the Metrobus Crawley depot will be uniquely
placed to serve Go-Ahead's aviation and rail businesses.
It represents a further significant development of Go-
Ahead's integrated transport strategy in the South East
of England.

The acquisition of the depot will provide additional off-
site maintenance and storage facilities close to Gatwick
airport, where the merger of GHI and BM Handling under
the Aviance brand will create a need for increased motor
transport repair and maintenance needs at Gatwick.

In the longer term, Go-Ahead's plans for the New Southern
Railway will involve major renovation work on the
Brighton line and the development of a new integrated
transport network for the area. With a Crawley base,
Metrobus will be ideally placed to provide rail
replacement services and bus links to Crawley, Three
Bridges and Gatwick railway stations.

In order to commence operations, 37 vehicles are being
transferred from within the Go-Ahead group and 18 new
vehicles are being acquired. These vehicles will also
provide capacity to service newly won Surrey County
Council contracts from 21 April 2001.
